Legions also have the special ability to create Forts, which are superb for defending positions or even to gain footholds on territory. To deal with this, Rome has the Legion, which is both stronger than the Swordsman it replaces and does not require Iron to build. Rome's expansionist nature is sure to breed some hostility, however. With such careful internal development, Rome is equally capable of pursuing any victory type. And the relatively cheap Baths will ensure continued growth and Amenities for Rome's citizens.

Free Trading Posts will provide extra Gold which can be expended on Builders, units, or infrastructure. The free monument (grainaries after the Ancient era) will afford Roman cities early growth. Once many cities are established, Rome should seek to build up the infrastructure of said cities. This is because Roman cities start with many benefits, including free roads (if within trade route distance) to the capital, free Trading Posts for extra Gold, and an extra starting building in the city center. Those who play Rome would do well to create cities quickly and aggressively. If there is anything that Trajan's Rome excels at, it's expansion.

Rome is led by Emperor Trajan, the relatively philanthropic emperor who oversaw the empire during its greatest territorial expanse and the second of the 'Five Good Emperors.' Rome is one of the original 19 civilizations available in Civilization VI.
